It is important for schools to try and improve their relationships with substitute teachers, Michael. Perhaps something as simple as providing a link on a school's Web site for directions to the school and how to find the main office could help. Additionally, instructing other teachers to just say "hi" and offering assistance could go a long way to making a substitute feel welcome.

After speaking with several substitute teachers recently I find this post to be, unfortunately, right on target. Too many find they aren't left with adequate lesson plans and often feel alienated by the staff. Considering that substitute teachers are an important figure in every school district, and many new teachers are subbing until they find permanent positions, it's vital that we improve this matter.
